Gates of dreams, The.
There are two such gates in Greek legend, that are of ivory and that of horn. Dreams that are false pass through the ivory gate; those that are true pass through the gate of horn. This fancy depends upon two puns: 'ivory' in Greek is elephas, and the verb elephairomai means 'to cheat with empty hopes'; the Greek for 'horn' is keras, and the verb karanoō means 'I accomplish'.
